Visiting Uncle Tom’s Cabin: Harriet and the Continuing Struggle Against Slavery

April 3, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free
See what Harriet was up against by sampling the Southern response to Uncle Tom’s Cabin; then read Harriet’s coverage of Sojourner Truth, part of her work against slavery after Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Caroline Lee Hentz’s life remarkably parallels Harriet’s–she was even a member of the Semi-Colon Club–but moved to the South and eventually wrote one of the most famous anti-Tom novels (also called plantation literature), The Planter’s Northern Bride (1854).
